About Robert Amacker
Robert Amacker (1944–2021) devoted more than half a century to the study, practice, and teaching of Taijiquan. He understood Taijiquan as more than a martial art or health exercise: for him, it was a complete expression of the Taijiquan Principle.
Robert began studying Yang Style T’ai Chi Ch’uan with Professor Zheng Manqing (Cheng Man-ch’ing) and later trained with two of Professor Zheng’s senior students, William C. C. Chen and Benjamin Lo. He continued his Yang Family training under Master Chu Chufang, studying the Solo Form, Tuishou, Three-step, Da Lu, and Sanshou.
A meticulous researcher and gifted teacher, Robert sought to preserve and understand the historically classical principles of Yang Family Taijiquan. He helped introduce the Taijiquan Classics to English-language readers as co-author of The Essence of T’ai Chi Ch’uan: The Literary Tradition. He is also the author of The Theoretical Basis of Taijiquan and Taijiquan Meditations for the Solo Form.
